Women in Construction Week is March 7-13, and we’re celebrating by featuring the women behind ECI. Get to know a little more about Anna Hoehn, Project Manager; Krystle Benoit, Project Engineer; and Sarah Evans, Project Engineer.

Anna Hoehn

What has been your greatest accomplishment in your career so far?

I have been honored to be a part of building so many public parks across northern Colorado. My greatest accomplishment has been to build parks that I can take my children to. It is an incredible joy to see their faces light up as they play in – what used to be – my work site.

What would encourage other women to pursue a career in construction?

If you want to work in construction, do it!  If you look around in an OAC these days, about half of the project teams are women. Don’t let your head tell you that it isn’t possible. Change is here.

How do you define success?

At the end of the day, success is a happy owner and a successful project.

What advice do you have for other women considering a career in construction?

There are so many supportive mentors, both men and women, you just have to find them. The mentors at ECI have pushed me to do exactly what I want in this career, regardless of my gender.

What is the most important career lesson you’ve learned so far?

The most important career lesson that I have learned is to listen to others. Being a woman in construction, it can feel like you need to be 100 percent certain about everything, so that you don’t second guess yourself. While confidence has a rightful place, so does humility. And a realization that others have great ideas – but ideas are useless if they are not heard.

Krystle Benoit

What has been your greatest accomplishment in your career so far?

Managing a project from start to finish.

What would encourage other women to pursue a career in construction?

You get to be part of the bigger picture and get to build something all communities can enjoy.

How do you define success?

I define success when we reach the finish line of a project successfully!

What advice do you have for other women considering a career in construction?

Go for it! You won’t regret it, it’s fun and at times challenging.

What is the most important career lesson you’ve learned so far?

The most important career lesson that I have learned is to listen and speak my mind!

Sarah Evans

What has been your greatest accomplishment in your career so far?

My family came to Colorado to visit me a few months ago and I took them to a couple of projects that I have been involved in. It was amazing to see how interested they were in the work that I do.

What would encourage other women to pursue a career in construction?

If women are willing to try something new and step out of their comfort zone, they may love learning about the world of construction. It is extremely rewarding to see a set of construction plans come to life and witness its impact on the community. Women should never be afraid to try something new and see if it is for them!

How do you define success?

I define my success by how much I have learned. I would rather make mistakes learning something new than do the same thing right for the rest of my life.

What advice do you have for other women considering a career in construction?

Try it! You will learn new things every single day and will always be challenged.

What is the most important career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Get yourself out of your comfort zone, ask questions, learn something new every day and always remember that you are awesome.
