Main Street Infrastructure Overhaul

Flooding of Fort Morgan’s Main Street and two dated downtown blocks meant the city’s popular thoroughfare desperately needed infrastructure and streetscape improvements. The $3.3 million CM/GC project was completed in just 88 days, with businesses remaining open and traffic congestion minimized. ECI solicited and hired local subcontractors who performed 26 percent of the work. In just three months, ECI installed a waterline, storm drains, concrete sidewalks, 17,000 square feet of permeable pavers to assist with water drainage, fly ash sub-grade stabilization and asphalt roadways. All of these installations were in addition to the downtown-area beautification efforts.  Hidden conditions, such as abandoned coal chutes, brought on additional challenges.

The project received the 2009 Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) – Colorado Chapter.
