Restoring a Legacy
For the Big Thompson Legacy River Resilience and Rist Goss Ditch Improvements project, ECI was selected to complete final restoration to the portion of the Big Thompson River that was impacted by the 2013 flood. This stretch included Reaches 30 and 31 west of Loveland and spanned 8,525 feet.
Restoration involved increasing the channel floodplain connection for a range of flow events; improving river and riparian habitat; encouraging channel narrowing in over-widened portions by adding point bars throughout the Reach; and improving sediment conveyance and fish passage by removing and replacing the existing Rist-Goss dam with a series of riffle structures.
