The MAX Bus Rapid Transit was the largest infrastructure project in Fort Collins’ history, linking the city’s South neighborhoods to popular Old Town five miles north. It is northern Colorado’s first bus rapid transit system and is an eco-friendly alternative to light rail transit. This monumental project included a transit-only guideway system, utility relocation, storm drainage facilities, an expanded maintenance facility, and the construction of a new transit center and 19 bus stations.
During construction, limited access meant each steel structure was fabricated offsite and then transported to its assigned location and installed. ECI achieved 100 percent fitting success with each station. Over the course of this 16-month project, ECI excavated each site, laid foundation, installed the steel structures, performed masonry work and completed all pavers/tiles on the finished structures. Each station includes custom-designed panels as part of the Art In Public Places program. In addition to project oversight and self-performed work, ECI managed several subcontractors to ensure that the project stayed on time, in sync, and within budget.
