Walk Through Time in Rifle, Colorado

The 14-acre Centennial Park alongside Rifle Creek highlights the city’s rich history, natural environment and cultural diversity. In addition to constructing a plaza, amphitheater, playground, splash park and other amenities for the $3M project, ECI built infrastructure to thwart occasional flood waters and accommodate the creek’s seasonal high flows.  ECI replaced three existing culverts with six attractive prefabricated concrete bridges while simultaneously stabilizing creek banks with new rip rap.  For park visitors, a large and charming sun dial is the centerpiece for a beautiful central plaza and amphitheater. Decorative colored concrete and sandstone accented with eye-catching steel waysides and gateways adorn the plaza and other park areas. Shade structures are placed around the park and along the creek, while distinctive site lighting creates dramatic effects at night. A trail meanders through these and other park elements, and leads to interpretive areas that tell the city’s long history.
